About the event
The annual Iu Keng ceremony is part of the vegetarian fast: a procession carrying the deities leaves the Kim Su Ong Keng shrine in Ban Don and winds through Sakhu subdistrict. The route runs through Ban Sakhu, Ban Nai Yang and Nai Yang beach, where the rite is held. Residents along the route are invited to set up offering tables outside their homes to greet the procession.
Programme:
06:30 Procession starts from Kim Su Ong Keng Shrine
09:00 Procession passes through Sakhu district, including Nai Yang and Nai Thon
Line-up: Kim Su Ong Keng Shrine (Ban Don)
From the editors
The Kim Su Ong Keng shrine in Ban Don is the Chinese shrine from which the procession departs. Sakhu Subdistrict Administration (SAO) is the local authority that publishes district announcements and does not run events itself. The Phuket Vegetarian Festival is a nine-day Chinese Taoist festival of purification, with street processions and rituals at local shrines.
