About the event
After Buddhist Lent, Karon observes the local traditions of Tak Bat Thewo and Chak Phra: the morning begins with alms-giving to monks, followed by a boat procession from Wat Suwannakhiri Khet (Wat Karon) to Wat Kittisangkharam (Wat Kata). It pauses outside the municipality before returning to the temple, with the procession travelling through Karon and bringing the community’s religious and cultural traditions into view.
From the editors
Wat Suwannakhiri Khet, also known as Wat Karon, is a Buddhist temple in Karon that serves the local community. Chak Phra is a southern Thai Buddhist tradition associated with the Buddha’s return from heaven to earth.
